Due to COVID variants and lockdowns, the restrictions imposed by the Indian government on travel have changed frequently. UK to India travel restrictions went through the same. To know what the latest entry guidelines are and if you are eligible to travel to India from the UK and how, this information will help you loads. 

Latest Guidelines For International Travel To India

Every international traveller to India must follow all the guidelines and screenings at the airport. Downloading the Aarogya Setu app is also recommended. However, filling out the Self-Declaration form on the Air Suvidha portal is absolutely MANDATORY.

While the UK to India travel restrictions have eased, it is mandatory to either be fully vaccinated or provide an RT-PCR report within 72 hours of departure.

Travel Guidelines To India From UK If – 

  • You’re Fully Vaccinated 

On 14th February 2022, the Ministry of Health and Welfare announced that COVID-19 vaccination certificates can be uploaded in place of a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR report on the Air Suvidha portal. Post these latest guidelines for international travel to India, there is now no need to test on arrival and quarantine at home for 7 days.  However, random testing on arrival at airports will continue to happen. The institutional quarantine will also come into the picture if someone tests positive.

  • You’re Not Fully Vaccinated

If you are unvaccinated, you will need to upload a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR report on the air Suvidha portal. Please note that the test must be conducted within 72 hours prior to your flight departure. Please note that India accepts the NHS proof of vaccination. 

  • You Have A Child Flying With You

Travel guidelines to India from UK for children and young people are slightly different. This is because children under 5 years of age are exempted from COVID-19 testing before or on arrival even if they are not fully vaccinated. However, in case of symptoms, you must contact a governmental institution and take up the treatment as per the protocols.

  • You’re Transiting Through India

Going by the recent updates, fully vaccinated individuals don’t need to undergo on-arrival testing. Besides, quarantine before transiting is also not required. However, as per the guidelines, “if you are unvaccinated, and you test positive on arrival and do not have an address in the city of your arrival, you may have to follow institutional quarantine.”

Exemptions For UK to India Travel Restrictions

There are no exemptions to India’s entry requirement. 

Note: These UK to India travel restrictions and guidelines are specifically for people travelling on a full British Citizen passport from the UK for the most common types of travel.

VISA Requirements For UK to India Travel

Any existing visas from before October 2021 are no longer valid. “Because of the disagreements between the UK and Indian governments about reciprocal rights for travellers, the Brits cannot currently use India’s more streamlined e-visa system valid for the great majority of countries.” They must, therefore, apply for a traditional paper visa instead. This must be done before submitting the passport and any documents. The processing time is at least 3 months. As per the rules, British citizens of Pakistani origin must apply for an Indian visa on a Pakistan passport, or prove that this has been renounced or cancelled.
